Thank you to all who attended the recent Rounders and BBQ evening – this event combined with our Wessex League BBQ catering
has raised over £1000 towards the new athletics centre.

This is a fantastic result and a big thank you goes to all who organised and took part in the events.

World Cup sweepstake was won by the Grinham family who were lucky enough to have Spain for their team!!

Further social fund raising events will take place after the summer holidays, building of the new athletics centre will start very soon!!!!

Don’t forget our ‘Buy a Brick’ challenge too - £10.00 secures your name on a brick – see if your place of work will sponsor a line?!

TUCK SHOP RE-OPENS FOR SUMMER SEASON!!

To raise funds for the new Athletics Centre, our Tuck Shop has re-opened on Monday and Thursday evenings during training sessions.  There will be hot and cold drinks and goodies for sale so please bring any spare change you might have for a drink, stay for a chat and watch your athlete!!

LET'S START THE COUNTDOWN TO RAISE £15K IN 6 MONTHS!!!

The registered charity “Athletics for the Young” is offering grants for the purchase of training equipment. To qualify you must be actively involved with athletics under age 23 and in full time education.

FUNDRAISING FOR 2010!

As we look forward to lighter evenings and the Summer outdoor season, our athletes’ ongoing success on the track and field is mirror imaged by our success in fundraising!

From secured grants and our own fundraising, we now ONLY have to raise a further £15K to achieve our goal if we are to start building later this year, we can do it... our goal is in sight.

There are many ways in which to reach our fundraising target:

1. ‘BUY A BRICK’– £10.00 buys a brick with your name on it. You can either buy one or two on behalf of your family or see if your place of work will sponsor a line.

2. You can now easily donate money via the website by following the links on this page.

3. Tescos Schools and Clubs Scheme 2010

Back around again for this year, the scheme has already started and you are able to collect vouchers in store or online for your grocery orders or paying for petrol. Vouchers to go towards sports equipment can be left with Nick Woodford or your coach or in the Tesco voucher box in the club house.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING THE VOUCHERS IN SO THAT WE CAN START GETTING NEW EQUIPMENT FOR THE CLUB!!

FUTURE PLANS FOR ANDOVER ATHLETIC CLUB

Dear Member,

As you know we have achieved fantastic successes in the past 18 months both on and off the track all of which we are very proud of. We currently have the largest membership in the history of Andover AC, this is reflected in the number of home meetings the Club is hosting this summer season. However, this success does bring a number of challenges; and our main one is lack of available indoor space, especially during the winter. As you may be aware we are currently forced to hire additional indoor space at local schools to cater for all of our members. This is not ideal as it dilutes away from the central club atmosphere and is extremely expensive. This situation is also a nightmare for many parents who have to be in two places at the same time! Our vision is to create the ANDOVER ATHLETICS CENTRE here at our current home adjacent to the town’s fantastic all weather track.

The Planned facility will include:

• 25-30m hall which will include a surface suitable for spikes – this will provide the Club with one of the only athletics specific indoor facilities outside of London

• Social room – this room will also double up as a coach education room and will be used by both England Athletics and UK Athletics to deliver a range of courses for coaches and officials. The Club have recently been donated a flat screen LCD TV and DVD for use in this area.

• Strength and conditioning suite is to double the size of our current building to include a reception area and a hall that could be used as a Sports Hall area, extend the Gym which will also double as a class room area for technical sessions.

• Upgraded changing rooms. You may have noticed that the club has recently started this work with the addition of new benches in both the male and female changing rooms.

This vision is a very costly process but is essential to ensure the long term future of Andover AC if we want to keep on gaining the successes you deserve. Initial cost estimates have indicated that the build is going to cost in the region of £100,000 and we need your help with fund raising. If every member can raise £100 and we continue to be successful at attracting grant aid and commercial investment/sponsorship WE CAN DO THIS!!!!
