Text Box: An opening plea to all mums and dads of all junior members
There have been a number of evenings when children have been dropped off and collected from the club or Harrow Way School either very early or very late. Can we remind everyone that we cannot be responsible for the younger members if they arrive early for training before the coaches arrive nor should the coaches be expected to wait around for children to be collected after training has finished.
Everyone involved in the club gives their time voluntarily and everyone does so as part of a busy life, often with their own families being juggled to
accommodate the athletes. Please help by dropping children off and picking them up at the right time. Better still, why not stay and get involved, join us for a run or help with coaching (courses available) or simply stay and watch!
But please be aware that our club coaches are busy people, they love coaching, but have their own lives, too! Thank you.

The final meeting of the Sportshall Indoor season was held on Saturday March 5th at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth.

The club was well represented in this event which was the Hampshire Sportshall Championships.

With such good individual as well as team results the club can be very proud of its younger members. CONGRATULATIONS.

Special thanks must go to Heather, Karen and Helen for their hard work over the season getting everyone ready and entered in the correct events....at times it was a real challenge! Thanks too, mums and dads, grandparents and friends for shouting so loudly.

On Saturday 5th March two of Andover A.C's strongest distance runners made the long trip North to represent Hampshire at the Reebok National Inter Counties Cross Country Championships held at Wollaton Park in Nottingham.
This race is one of the biggest cross country races in Great Britain and always attracts the biggest of athletics stars. This year was no different and competitors included reigning European Cross Country Champion Hayley Yelling.

Phil Bernsten again proved why he is seen by many as a future champion by being the second Hampshire runner home in 36th in the U15 boys 4.5km race.
This is extremely convincing performance considering the overall field contained 301 runners from all over the British Isles and was run in extreme conditions including snow storms. Phil was rewarded for his impressive performance by being part of the Hampshire team that won silver.
Phil will now compete for Hampshire in the Inter boys race at the English Schools Championships in Norwich on Saturday 12th March.

The other Andover A.C athlete - Kearon Hooley competed in the U20 8.5km race and was 156th in a very strong field. This is another impressive result especially considering Kearon is still carrying a niggling back injury.

Holly Croxford was the only Andover A.C athlete to compete at the National Indoor Championships where she performed well and recorded a new indoor P.B . What a brilliant run..........and did you know...... she was ranked number one in the UK for the U15 200m at the end of last year.

Text Box: Andover A.C have been awarded £700 from UK Athletics through their PESSCL (Physical Education School Sport Club Links) scheme. This money will be used as the clubs contribution towards a part time athletics community coach. This is only the second athletics community coach in Hampshire and is
further proof that Andover A.C is becoming one of the strongest development clubs in the region.

Have you thought any more about helping by becoming a coach?      Or an official?

Or helping at the Young Athletes Meeting in May?

Or getting out those old trainers and coming for a run?   or jump?   or throw?

We’d love you too!

Rectangular Callout: Mums, Dads, Granny,
