Text Box: CLUB HOUSE

As most members will already know the club was broken into recently.
Clothing was taken, photographs were removed from display, equipment was taken and damage was done which will cost a lot to put right.

The club is insured but it does not help us immediately.

It makes everyone aware of the need to be careful of our possessions when we are training as many people use the sports facilities around us or simply come walking by.

Please do not leave valuable items in the club it would be a pity if they went missing.
                                            Text Box: EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING

This was held on Wednesday 5th January and was necessary because of the tragic loss of George.

It was sad that the meeting was not better attended but the committee’s thanks go to those who were there.

From the meeting Ian Oldacre was elected as Chairman and Karen Seymore and John Moon were elected to the committee.

It should be pointed out the both Ian and Helen Dobinson, Secretary, will hold their positions until the AGM only.

So, if you know of anyone who would like to be involved these two posts will become vacant in October.

RECENT RESULTS

Every athlete who embarked on a trip to an open meeting at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff came home with new indoor personal bests.  Emma Brown and Francesca Hanson competed in the Under 17s 200m clocking 30.45secs and 31.05secs respectively.  Richard Pitcher over the same distance in the boys category claimed a third placing in 26.73secs.  Over the longer distance of 400m James Folkes finished in 56.04secs and James Whiteman 58.21secs.

Sunday took athletes to various venues.  John Moon had a pleasing run in the Stubbington 10km, whilst Dave Cleghorn enjoyed his run in the Stockbridge 8 mile.

A large contingency headed to Devizes for the 4th Wessex League Cross Country Meeting.  The course was new therefore no-one was aware of the mud and water that awaited our arrival.  Slippery muddy surfaces made the going under foot heavy but to top this off there were several patches of unavoidable knee deep quagmires.  The spectators were amused with the various methods undertaken by the athletes attempting to cross these patches and plenty of encouragement given to those whose lost shoes in the bog or fell over.  Those who had competed the day before were extremely weary by the time they completed this tough course.  Whilst the weather held for the early races the Senior men were blessed with cold wintry rain in addition to the mud.

The Under 11s started proceedings, Daniel Jones finished fast to steal 2nd place and a much improved Francis Proctor followed him in 7th. Ellora Milson put in a strong performance gaining 15th.  Jodie Horigan and Amy Reynolds, two new club members, competing in their first race were completely undeterred by the conditions and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. To make up for previous days mishap

Sarah Holliday battled her way around to come home with her highest placing to date.  Finally well done to the Under 15 girls team which came third.  Full results:  U11 2nd D Jones 7th F Proctor 15th E Milson  17th J Horigan 26th M Dobinson 30th C Seymour 31st J Phillips 32nd A Reynolds U13 Girls 24th N Rogers 27th L Dobinson 28th C Woodford 30th Z Shearman U15 Girls 11th C Horne 14th G Carter 16th C Gallop U15 Boys 21st E Barter U17 Girls 5th Sarah Holliday 19th C Power 20th E Brown U17 Boys 11th J Whiteman Senior Men 13th K Hooley 40th J Coney 58th I Oldacre 65th R Phillips 66th Paul Bainbridge 72nd K Mason 77th C Govan.
